Is peace finally upon us? With the persistent sound of human screeches and running feet, it seems impossible for students of modern education to finally have a moment of silence. While it may come as a noise disruption to others around them, for some kids the need to move and express themselves loudly is as natural as drawing breaths. But fear not, for we will explore how to tame such creatures in addition to their disadvantages.

How does being unmindful threaten me?

  • Careless Accidents

No one wants to get injured, but one of the consequences of being unmindful could lead to careless accidents or injuries, increasing more dangerous risks present in your school. Therefore, it is important to be mindful as it helps us direct our attention with greater awareness

  • Creates Conflict

Being unmindful is not beneficial for anyone, as it shows impulsive behavior, and might create conflicts. Conflicts are very hard to deal with, and why would anyone want to deal with conflict, knowing that IB school life itself is already a hassle? It leaves a bad impression on your schoolmates and teachers who play an important role in your school life. If you want to have good relationships with your teachers and friends, then pay attention to your mindfulness!

  • Cultivates Negative Perceptions

If you have a friend who shows impulsive behavior, barely any manners, or doesn’t pay attention to their surroundings, wouldn’t it also make you feel distanced from them? So, ensuring that you pay attention to your mindfulness in school will not only help you become a better version of yourself, but it will also attract more friends who are willing to build a better relationship with you.

How can I manage these people?

Most people want to avoid conflict, as it’s natural for them to want to get along and be liked by their schoolmates, so dealing with issues like this at school can be very awkward. The tendency is often to grit your teeth and put up with it. However, when dealing with a protracted situation that affects your productivity, you know the line’s been crossed, and you must take action! So, here are solutions to quiet down your deafening classmates without the need for verbal/physical contact.

  • Designate an Official Quiet Zone

Use fun signs and simple reminders that certain areas are intended to be places where people can focus and work in peace. These signs will naturally bring out a peaceful environment and lend themselves to quieter behavior.

  • Assign Roles

Personally or ask a teacher to assign students as “noise monitors” to keep the students responsible for the disruption of peace in check to ensure their level of noise remains appropriate. This will empower other students to take ownership of their behaviors and spread mindfulness.

  • Share Your Issues

If none of these solutions work out in your classroom, it is suggested to consider bringing the issue up with a trusted teacher for additional support and guidance. Sharing is usually the secret to addressing any kind of problem. In fact, it’s best for everyone studying in an open space to openly discuss about mindfulness.

Conclusion

In conclusion, building a good understanding of others’ situations is crucial for a lot of things. Take friendship for example. Friendship can only be achieved through the efforts of all parties, and to do that, it takes a good handful of one's mindfulness.

It’s important to keep in mind that it's not always gonna be perfect, and misunderstandings might happen every once in a while. Of course, challenges are a given in these situations, but sooner or later you'll come to see for yourself of the nice benefits that come with it.

Who knew, that being mindful not only influences others but could also help with keeping your own well-being in check at the same time? Picture this, after being so considerate of others for a good amount of time, it's pretty certain that most people would start to take a liking to you, or at least, not think of you in a negative perspective. And hey, before you know it, there'll be more supportive people around you too, which in turn would make you feel better about yourself, and just would benefit your mindset and well-being a lot in general.

Don't forget to take your time with things and it's okay to mess up sometimes! We, as humans, grow from our mistakes and it's important to make mental notes for ourselves when we need to be more mindful, both for others and for ourselves.
